THE HYPER-CL CONTACT LENS INCREASES DROPS APPLIED
CONTACT TIME, FOR AN EFFECTIVE THERAPY
The Hyper-CL contact lens provides a novel solution for treatment of corneal edema. Coupled with hypertonic drops, the lens has been shown to have an impact on treatment outcome.
Hyper-CL’s design enables hypertonic drops to have a longer contact time with the cornea. This prolonged contact period enables hypertonic agents to draw water out of the cornea longer, offering better relief from corneal edema-related symptoms.
The lens may be used for dailywear. It can be removed for cleaning and disinfection (chemical, not heat) at any time and then reinserted to the eye. In addition, Hyper-CL contact lens offers an added protective layer to the eye, shielding it from the eyelid to allow for better recuperation and improved healing.
HOW DOES IT WORK? THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME
The unique design of the Hyper CL, comprised of dual base curves, a groove and fenestrations, enable the capture and delivery of a drop of solution applied to the contact-lens surface. Once applied, the drop would migrate into the space between the lens and the cornea, extending the contact time with the objective of enhancing the drop/drug effectiveness. When hypertonic drops are dripped on the patients eye. they will reach the spacing through the fenestrations in the lens and will not get washed away quickly. The drops will remain in contact with the eye for a longer time, and improve the extraction of the excess fluids by osmosis from the cornea.
The Hyper-CL is CE-certified and FDA 510(k) cleared and is now commercially available in Europe and the US. It is indicated for therapeutic use to protect the corneal surface and to relieve corneal pain. in the treatment of acute or chronic ocular pathologies. The lens may be prescribed for daily wear with removal for cleaning and disinfection for 14 days. The Hyper-CL can also provide optical correction during the healing process if required.
In order to alleviate corneal edema, it is recommended to use hypertonic solution in combination with the Hyper-CL. Here’s how it works after the Hyper-CL lens is inserted to the eye:
3 drops are administered, the patient blinks, and 3 additional drops are administered
Drops fill the reservoir
Drops in reservoir remain in contact with the eye for an extended period of time
The standard parameters of the Hyper-CL lens are: diameter 15.5 and BC
8.3. These parameters will fit about 85–90% of patients. EyeYon can
produce the Hyper-CL lens with other parameters as well, including
an optical correction if needed.
The Hyper-CL can have an optical correction according to a specific prescription.
The Hyper-CL is indicated for a daily wear use. EyeYon has tested the
Hyper-CL for an extended wear of 7 days and is expecting regulatory
approval. In any case, we recommend you consult with your eye practitioner.
