Hyper-CL™:

An innovative drug depot to increase bioavailability of any topical drops

Hyper-CL™ Therapeutic Soft Contact Lens is the market’s first ocular drug depot system in the form of a non-invasive, comfortable, and easy-to-use contact lens. Its unique design increases the contact time of topical drops on the cornea, improving treatment. Hyper-CL™ is indicated for various corneal conditions as well as post-surgical conditions and is clinically proven to relieve corneal pathologies, significantly increasing the quality of life. Hyper-CL™ is CE-approved for continuous wear and is in the commercialization stage across Europe and Asia.

The Need

Administration of topical drops is a common challenge for all eye diseases, where less than 5% of the topical drops reaches the target area of treatment. The Hyper-CL™ Therapeutic Soft Contact Lens is intended for short-term wear (up to 7 days) to promote corneal healing and relieve corneal pain by protecting the cornea during the treatment of acute or chronic pathologies such as corneal edema, corneal erosions, entropion, bullous keratopathy, and corneal dystrophies, as well as post-surgical conditions resulting from cataract extraction and corneal surgery. To increase the therapeutic effect, use of the Hyper-CL™ Therapeutic Soft Contact Lens in conjunction with an ophthalmic solution is recommended. Hyper-CL™ Therapeutic Soft Contact Lenses can even provide optical correction during healing, if required.

Hyper CL™ - designed to deliver

Hyper CL™ increases bioavailability of any topical drops

Increases contact time with drugs

With its unique design, Hyper-CL™ contact lens increases the contact time of therapeutic eye drops. More medicated time means better and faster outcomes.

Applied like other contact lenses

Hyper-CL™ therapeutic lens is easy to wear, clean, and remove as any other contact lens

Shields the eye

Adding another layer of protection, Hyper-CL™ therapeutic lens protects the eye, acting as a buffer from the eyelid and allowing for better healing.

How does it work?

Step 1

Eye drops are administered and fill the reservoir by flowing into the space created by the Hyper-CL™.

Step 2

The unique shape of the Hyper-CL™ lens captures and holds the therapeutic eye drops against the cornea, extending the contact time and thus their efficacy.

Step 3

The lens can remain in the eye up to 7 days before cleaning, then up to another 7 days, after which time it is removed.

Novel drug-repository contact lens for prolonging the antimicrobial-cornea interaction for bacterial keratitis treatment: randomised controlled trial results

Microbial keratitis can cause unilateral blindness, but the drug delivery treatment options are poor. Therefore, this study evaluated the efficacy of a novel therapeutic drug-depository contact lens (DDCL) for bacterial keratitis (BK) treatment. The lens was designed to increase the corneal lesion-antimicrobial drug interaction time.

Prof. Francis Mah, MD, San Diego, CA, USA

I was able to try the Hyper-CL™ in a patient with a corneal melt, significant corneal edema, and Serratia infectious keratitis. The result was dramatic. The patient had resolution within a week with complete resolution of the patient’s AC inflammation/hypopyon.  The epithelium was completely healed, and the infiltrate was almost completely resolved.  Usually, these are long courses that take an average of 2 weeks to resolve.

Prof. Lional Raj, MD, Tirunelveli, India

The concept of using a novel drug repository contact lens is effective in prolonging corneal antimicrobial availability and drug contact time over the lesion and has demonstrated faster corneal healing, which may affect the overall outcomes in bacterial keratitis. Using a drug depo contact lens, may reduce the regimen of antibiotics, decrease treatment burden on the medical staff, improve patient tolerance, and reduce toxicities.

Prof. Irit Barequet, MD, Sheba Medical Center, Israel

The proportion of patients achieving a significant improvement in CCT and BCVA was greater in the therapeutic Hyper-CL™ group. In addition, the therapeutic Hyper-CL™ group had a greater improvement in mean BCVA and mean CCT.

Dr Boris Knyazer MD, Soroka Medical Center

Upon Hyper CL™ insertion, as well as hyperosmotic saline application, patients were extremely surprised to find a significant sight improvement, emphasizing the high level of excitement and significance those patients were experiencing.

Dr. Moshe Mendelson, Silicon Valley Eye Physicians

Excellent results for our first patient. Patient and I satisfied with outcome.  His Visual acuity improved from 20/200- to 20/60+.

Dr. Navneet Toshniwal, India

I used lens for bullous keratopathy with excellent result. Corneal condition improves and then visual acuity too. I am excited to use more.
